Hand-held magnifiers are an indispensable, affordable tool used daily by people with low vision. Lens quality and grip comfort vary a great deal in magnifiers that are offered in the marketplace today. We pay close attention to what is offered; we have found that paying a little more for responsible manufacturers, aspheric lenses and for LED lighting is well worth it. The magnifiers we offer are also warrantied by the manufacturers who stand by their products for any defect or malfunction. We love our SMDedge line, which has the brightest illumination we have found and comes with a lanyard to wear the magnifier around your neck in the store. You will find we have some great choices for your everyday needs. We test all our magnifiers and we supply batteries before shipping or showing them. Hints for success
Most people use hand-held magnifiers by holding them down over and close to the reading. Stronger magnifiers require a different way. One, if you wear bifocals or trifocals, try taking them off, as multi focal lenses create distortions when looking through a magnifier. Two, and this is important, hold the magnifier up to your better eye touching the side of your nose and bring what you are looking at up close to your face. Find the focus by adjusting the distance between the reading and the lens. The best way to do this is to rest the magnifier against your nose and move the paper in or out with the other hand until the image is sharp. The reward is that this method lets you see a wider field, that is, more words. Try doing this with something light and relatively stiff paper to see how it works. The stronger the magnifier, the closer to your face will you hold the paper to be in focus. Call us with questions. I am sure we can help you find success.
